The legend

For years, there has been a story told throughout the San Miguel area that zebras were running wild in the mountains.  Some say it is just a tail, while others were certain that a high ranking member of government or a cartel imported them from Afica.  No matter what story you may have heard, the truth is that someone did in fact bring zebras across the Atlantic.

While staying in San Miguel, I was fortunate enough to get a chance to hike the Picachos mountains with a local tour guide, Thomas.  Many times hiking these mountains I saw wild horses, a sight that is not so common in the United States these days.  Thomas spends a lot of time in these mountains and the horses are comfortable around him.
